Buyers who want to get a serious deal on a handgun have a few different options at their disposal. The equipment gets produced, the military or the company that produced it for the military cannot find a reasonable allocation for it, so it gets sold to the public at a (typically) huge discount just to get it moved. - Get a lightly used model (if used at all) - Some military surplus is used, and some has never been used or even issued. That means by shopping surplus deals, you can theoretically buy a new firearm that has been used, issued or even handled.

- Get something hard to find, or something you can’t find new - The other thing is that since some models have never been available for sale to the public, or have only been produced overseas and were never for sale here, you can sometimes find surplus deals that wouldn’t be available elsewhere. Some popular surplus handguns, for example, were issued to other militaries and thus are difficult to come by here in America - except as surplus.
