Nowadays, just finding a reliable gun shop where you can find 20 gauge shells or .22 rimfire ammo seems like a challenge. Back in the day these were a dime a dozen and the bare minimum qualifier for a reputable gun shop. Still, that is basically the bare minimum for what qualifies the usefulness of a gun shop. When you need something basic you can shop for it at a big box retailer or sporting goods shop. The reason you need a good gun shop is for the experience of the owners and the ability to source hard-to-find parts and other supplies of that nature. That’s the type of thing that you can’t rely on most big box retailers for, and even some smaller shops won’t have what you need or know how to help.
